2008 Goals We have specific goals from which new ideas can grow, to ensure the 2008 guild is proactive.....
About usIn 2008 we need an active student focused Guild, which provides something for all students on campus...
We are all students who want to see change in 2008. We want a guild that actually achieves things for students.
Basha Stasak- Guild President Candidate
Hello, I am a 2nd year Law/Commerce student. This year I served on the Guild Secretariat, as Clubs and Societies Officer and 8ball coordinator. I was involved in Students with out Borders, the 2007 Guild Survey, the University Restructure and a myriad of other guild programs. I also sat on the Staffing and Finance Committee and Education Board.I would not run for this position if I did not feel that I was qualified and could lead an active, student-focused guild in 2008. I will use the insights I have gained this year to oversee an effective student guild. You can read more about me and my 2007 experiences on my blog.
In 2008 I would like to see an active student focused guild on campus. One which achieves outcomes on campus which benefit students and support them in their students. Read more about my goals here
I am a very honest and approachable person and if elected you can count on me to be a friendly face, and a knowledgeable and committed student representative. With that said, I ask you all to get involved and make an informed decision when casting your ballots. If you see me around campus, say hello and offer your ideas for next year’s student services and activities.
Neil Goldsborough- Guild Council Candidate
I am studying Environmental Restoration and in my third year, I served on the Guild Secretariat this year. I have been very active in promoting Environmental issues on Campus and have worked with Caroline Minton on various issues to protect the Environment here. Along with students from Ecology and Environmental Restoration, baseline data has been collected for Campus. I will continue to work with staff and students to highlight Environmental issues on Campus, such as better recycling facilities and a Green building code.
Brodie Lewis- Guild Council Candidate
Magdeline Lum- Postgrad President Candidate I have been associated with Murdoch University for almost ten years. Firstly as a high school student attending WA Science Summer School, (now known as WA Science and Engineering Summer School), then as an undergrad and finally as a postgrad.
I would like to see METIOR return to being a newspaper focussed on Murdoch University students. This year when I did manage to find a rare edition, I was embarrassed and mortified at the amount of infighting and dirty laundry being aired. It was not a student paper that I wanted to be associated with. In addition to this I will be sure to contribute to a postgrad section filled with information, advice, social events, and comic relief.
I am quite willing and able to organise regular social events should the interest be there and well in advance so that people can get involved. You know somewhere in between the labs, fieldwork, marking, running tutorials, research, working and perhaps sleeping.
I would also like to push for a common room dedicated for postgrads to be in to just hang out, chill or talk to other postgrads. It would be a wonderful opportunity for networking, getting advice or support from one another somewhere away from the pressures of research. This is my main aim for 2008 and I will be going about this sensibly and responsibly. Though I will need your help, firstly by voting for me.
